Neal Katz: Music

Not A Real Song

NOT A REAL SONG
words and music by Neal Katz

You listen to me play some nice notes on my guitar
Think this song will lift you up take you so far
Oh but listener how wrong you are
Cause this is not a real song

You see, I work a full job each day of the week
And in all my free time, I play hide and seek
With my young son of two years,
got that young boy mystique
My days are filled with these things

Between family, work, bills, and play
Cleaning the house for a Saturday soiree
My time management skills are in disarray
And sometimes I go to sleep

They say you grow old when you get to a stage
Where you let your dreams go and simply disengage
Make some muffled peace with your inner rage
And decide to dream no more

I don’t know when it will be my time to go
But I pray that I never grow stale and just plateau
I think about the gifts someday I'll bestow
And hope that it all was worthwhile

So I try to write some music
and put my soul at ease
Find some simple notes,
and play them as I please
But when I pick up my guitar I lack expertise
I just strum a few chords and relax

And so I sing what words may come along
That, my friend, is why this was never a real song
And inside my music is where I need to belong
Today just wasn't the right day
