Neal Katz: Music
Everywhere To Run
EVERYWHERE TO RUN
words and music by Neal Katz
It was 4am, the night was growing cold
I felt like I was 17, but I really 13 years old
A light tap on my window, Pat was waiting outside
He had borrowed his mom's new car,
so we took it for a ride
But Pat was also 13, but no, that didn't stop him
We had paper routes to do in under one hour
and by 5am to get back in
We were old men in kid's clothes
Ready to grow up ready to grow
We took our chances and had our fun
So young and care-free
Everywhere to run, everywhere to run
This went on for 3 months, every morning
Pat would stop by
I’d go to the garage and hide my bike,
I would put it outside
So my mom she’d wake up and see I was out,
doing my route
She was so proud of her hardworking son,
but she knew nothing about
One night the plan backfired,
Pat was caught and so was I
How do old men turn into kids that start to cry
What could my mother say to her out-of-control boy
The same sweet kid who just months ago brought her joy, brought her joy
So we stopped stealing our parent's cars,
we moved on to better things
Like finishing out our high school years with prom dates and class rings
It's been a long time passing since Pat and I hung around
Probably wouldn’t be that much fun,
now that we're standing on solid ground
