Pangea
PANGEA
words and music by Neal Katz
Well I guess I believe in Pangea.
How can I argue with plate tectonics?
It’s unsettling to think we’re always moving
Active or passively - millimeter at a time
I need down time, but the plates keep slipping
Like a relationship moving at it’s own pace
Always in motion, calling out for control
We try to stop it - that’s not what nature planned
Once upon a time the world was one
Slowly and carefully it came undone
With a trembling quake the drifting starts
Broken by fault we split apart
Now I’m standing on the East Coast of America
And you’re waving at me from Sierra Leone
We could’ve been neighbors a million years ago
But there’s a lot of water between us now
The Madagascar child looks longingly
To Western India - where he used to play
Oh the sweet time they spent at each other’s side
But Continental Drift just kept them away
We may cherish our boundaries but as we move
away from the other - an inch at a time
We find we crash into another plate
Snuck up behind us - damn we were unaware.
